I like the face filter on your phone camera lol
Nicely done! I bet that was a really great fight. That’s a really good fish!Found this one tailing in pretty deep water- it chased my damsel nymph pattern about 4 feet. 35” with 21” girth should put it right around 20lbs. Heck of a fight.
Judging by your pics, I'd have to say you've cracked the carp code! 👍Carp were spawning like crazy today- managed to pick up this guy though. No major runs- just thrashed around. Waters up to 78 deg this am.
For only pursuing them for such a short time, you do remarkably well catching them. Move aside dc410, there's a new sheriff in town. 😉I’ve never paid attention to carp until the last month- there are actually just so many of them out there it’s crazy- and they are huge, fight so hard. I really like the sight fishing aspect of it. It’s like hunting and has made me slow down. It’s amazing what you see if you just stand still for even one full minute
lol- I do feel like they are a honest fish and if you can find them mudding/feeding they will eat your fly. It’s the thrashing though the brush and nettles and then being patient that’s hardFor only pursuing them for such a short time, you do remarkably well catching them. I'd never put a trout or bass on the reel before. carp will put you on the backing routinely!!I didn't realize they ran like that. I always envisioned them just digging for the bottom.
Nice! Carp love working the weeds for bugs but they are very tough to get hooked up with in the weeds because your fly is almost constantly snagged in the vegetation which quickly puts the carp down. I have had luck in the past in hooking up with carp that are clooping in the film in the weeds by laying my fly softly into the film right where they are clooping. Occasionally you can get them to eat that offering.Had a great morning with 4 eats - but bent out the hook on one and pulled the fly right out of the mouth of the other 2. Decided to find a new spot and nabbed this guy. Got skunked yesterday- fish seemed really picky. The day before I fished around Halderman island on the Susquehanna- was targeting bass and caught a handful but kept getting distracted by all the carp feeding in the weed beds. I didn't catch any but it was pretty cool to be drifting directly over them - they were all burrowed deep into the weeds and couldn’t get my fly in front of them. I’m gonna have to go back again asap
I think it’s totally awesome and a real good example of what some serious drive and commitment can get you in catching carp on the fly. Lhersh has obviously accomplished that! For only pursuing them for such a short time, you do remarkably well catching them. Move aside dc410, there's a new sheriff in town. 😉
Sweet! Smallies love hanging around in the silt cloud or on the flanks of a seriously muddin’ carp!!Just some Carping bycatch - 3 of my best smallies ever- all 17.5” clones who jumped in front of the carp I was targeting and grabbed my fly
They might all be 17.5", but that last one is a real hog! Must have been an awesome fight.Just some Carping bycatch - 3 of my best smallies ever- all 17.5” clones who jumped in front of the carp I was targeting and grabbed my fly
So you've never been to Pymtuning? The most carp I've ever seen was in the West Branch Susquehanna River below the Williamsport dam.
If you have a boat you may want to give that a try.
I don't know if the huge numbers of carp there was a seasonal thing or if they are there all the time.
