Started out upstream of the regs area at a public park thinking that they hadn't stocked up there in a week so folks might think its fished out. At 1pm I saw one other guy upstream of bridge. Thought my plan had passed muster. Dropped in at bridge to fish wets downstream. Second cast the baiter comes from around the bridge peir. I waved and moved downstream 100 yards. Skipped over a couple holes for him. Got caught in a tree on first cast, by the time I got fishing again, he was on top of me. So I decided to head downstream again. Got to the next riffle, nice heavy riffle on a bend, two casts and here comes this guy from the park with two rods, a tackle box and bait bucket. He stands at the edge of the riffle surveys the scene and then walks right through like he is escaping a fire. Really?
He crosses over to my side and downstream 50 ft to the sweet spot of the bend hole and sits down to get rigged up. Shake my head....move downstream again around bend and find a nice run to swing wets, but under trees and can't cast, give it a whirl work a piece of water and find a very nice run into a deep hole against a large rock. Awesome! Get a bump on the first cast but it shakes off. Turn around and, you guessed it, the old guy is in my back pocket again. Just downstream, I could clean his ears out with my tiptop.
I catch one and lose another big 'un. Then here comes this young redneck kid on the outside of the bend near the big rock with an ultralight and can of corn. Stands right over the hole and starts plunking corn at the end of my drifts pulling one fish out after another, setting the hook like Roland Martin....SON! After he smacks the third fish off the rocks he is standing on, claiming he releases all his fish now...I move on again.
Downstream I go, Another 150 yards around the next bend through the streamside brush and come upon a young man and his girlfriend who are stuck in briars. So I keep going and see another in the water, must be together I figure so I retreat upstream midway between oldman and redneck and briarboy and his old lady. Nice long flat water, not very appealing looking but its water. I get in cross stream and go up 30 ft and here comes a guy downstream with spinners....Rat'zin frat'zin!
Well he seems reasonable and holds his ground but I look downstream and here comes the calvary of horses trouncing through the water upstream toward me. I hold my ground as I saw a fish rise against the bank...figure they will pass on by. And they do...to about 40 ft above me. I took off my wets and decided to strip a bugger due to the water type. Picked up 7 rainbows pretty quick. By then there were SEVEN of the high school aged redneck youngsters upstream of me...and guess what...cornholio from upstream shows up bragging how many fish he caught up there I guess he is one of them....So I bag it and head to the car. Lots of grannoms in the trees up here BTW.
Drove down below the Regs area and fished the evening. Hendricksons and Grannoms were on the water. Lots of hendricksons...and rising fish. Scrambling to find my hendricksons...must have been in another box in the car...I put on a quill Gordon and Picked up another 8 or so fish till it got dark. Helped a young kid who went to get his flyrod when he saw me catching fish on top. Told him what fly to use and to put it over their heads, when I saw him again he said he had one on....he was very excited, first one he he ever caught on a fly.
