Started out upstream of the regs area at a public park thinking that they hadn't stocked up there in a week so folks might think its fished out. At 1pm I saw one other guy upstream of bridge. Thought my plan had passed muster. Dropped in at bridge to fish wets downstream. Second cast the baiter comes from around the bridge peir. I waved and moved downstream 100 yards. Skipped over a couple holes for him. Got caught in a tree on first cast, by the time I got fishing again, he was on top of me. So I decided to head downstream again. Got to the next riffle, nice heavy riffle on a bend, two casts and here comes this guy from the park with two rods, a tackle box and bait bucket. He stands at the edge of the riffle surveys the scene and then walks right through like he is escaping a fire. Really?

He crosses over to my side and downstream 50 ft to the sweet spot of the bend hole and sits down to get rigged up. Shake my head....move downstream again around bend and find a nice run to swing wets, but under trees and can't cast, give it a whirl work a piece of water and find a very nice run into a deep hole against a large rock. Awesome! Get a bump on the first cast but it shakes off. Turn around and, you guessed it, the old guy is in my back pocket again. Just downstream, I could clean his ears out with my tiptop.

I catch one and lose another big 'un. Then here comes this young redneck kid on the outside of the bend near the big rock with an ultralight and can of corn. Stands right over the hole and starts plunking corn at the end of my drifts pulling one fish out after another, setting the hook like Roland Martin....SON! After he smacks the third fish off the rocks he is standing on, claiming he releases all his fish now...I move on again.

Downstream I go, Another 150 yards around the next bend through the streamside brush and come upon a young man and his girlfriend who are stuck in briars. So I keep going and see another in the water, must be together I figure so I retreat upstream midway between oldman and redneck and briarboy and his old lady. Nice long flat water, not very appealing looking but its water. I get in cross stream and go up 30 ft and here comes a guy downstream with spinners....Rat'zin frat'zin!

Well he seems reasonable and holds his ground but I look downstream and here comes the calvary of horses trouncing through the water upstream toward me. I hold my ground as I saw a fish rise against the bank...figure they will pass on by. And they do...to about 40 ft above me. I took off my wets and decided to strip a bugger due to the water type. Picked up 7 rainbows pretty quick. By then there were SEVEN of the high school aged redneck youngsters upstream of me...and guess what...cornholio from upstream shows up bragging how many fish he caught up there I guess he is one of them....So I bag it and head to the car. Lots of grannoms in the trees up here BTW.

Drove down below the Regs area and fished the evening. Hendricksons and Grannoms were on the water. Lots of hendricksons...and rising fish. Scrambling to find my hendricksons...must have been in another box in the car...I put on a quill Gordon and Picked up another 8 or so fish till it got dark. Helped a young kid who went to get his flyrod when he saw me catching fish on top. Told him what fly to use and to put it over their heads, when I saw him again he said he had one on....he was very excited, first one he he ever caught on a fly.

Very good. I hate driving around to find empty or near empty pulls on waters. Survey up and down to look for other anglers before heading off only to be rebuffed by an angler that pops out of no where. Hate that. That Breeches is crazy, went there one 4th of July. Was on the Allenberry water at 6am and in 15 minutes o could not move up or down.

I was out on Breeches Saturday morning and despite the gorgeous weather I had a long section all to myself - only saw three other anglers. Very little hatch activity but plenty of elbow room and still lots of stocked fish around and willing (this was outside the special reg section).

Sure, YB has a reputation for being crowded and it often deserves this reputation - especially in the reg water on weekends during closed season - but don't let this discourage you from fishing the stream. There is a lot of water to fish on YB and pressure can really drop off a couple weeks into the season.

It is frustrating that so many lack streamside courtesy. Soon the novelty will wear off for the crowds though.

You could be the new Gierach. I laughed out loud!

Great report. Those young corn chuckers and worm dunkers may see the light someday and become tomorrow's cold water champions.

Perhaps the best stream report ever. I am going to archive this and read it any time I start to think about heading over to the Breeches. Last time I tried to fish it I drove all over the lower end looking for some room to fish. Gave up and went home. That stream is a zoo.

What is it about the bait fishermen that etiquette just goes out the window? I fish the Breeches all the time and last year was the first time I had to turn around and tell someone to please give me some room. Young kid just looked at me and walked through the hole I was fishing. I've never seen a fly fisherman do such a thing. My wife wants to know what I've got against the worm and powerbait guys, and besides the fact that most of them kill and/or abuse the fish, it is this lack of common decency.

Very funny report though.

It's not necessarily bait fishermen, it's the inexperienced/non hard-core fishermen who just don't care. The "couple-days-a-year opening day rope 'em all up" crowd. It just so happens that most of them use bait, but I've see more than my share of inconsiderate fly fishermen as well. The spin fishermen who are "into" the sport have a lot of etiquette compared to the opening day powerbait lightening trout chasers.

Fantastic report btw

Nicely done all around Mo.

I think part of the issue with a lot of folks that only fish this time of year lies in the fact that they do only fish this time of year, regardless of angling method. If you only fish opening weekend and the couple weeks after until Turkey starts you're conditioned to think that elbow to elbow is normal and acceptable ettiquette, and the length of a fly line is more than enough room to give someone. Can't really fault someone for thinking that under those circumstances. They probably think the guy asking for more room is being a snob and hogging water...just sayin.

Those of us that fish year round, most of the time are used to having the stream to ourselves. If we see another car parked along a stretch of stream, we go elsewhere.

It's just the overlapping of two different realities for these few weeks. The water will be ours again soon.

I think you just set the bar for stream reports?
Nicely done with a happy ending.

Great report Mo. At least you didn't have any tubers or kayakers floating by or the tubers running you down..............did ya?

Just bummed out that i didnt see Maurice's text saying he was there. Missed out on that fun.
