What else is going on at Big Spring?

Fished the FFO section on Friday am. The lowermost and next up parking areas were loaded with a bunch of logs and rock. As I was leaving that section, there was a huge front end loaded type doing something in the actual stream. Tore up the bank at the lower end of the lot pretty bad. Any word on what is happening there. Love the stream, just extremely fearful for it's future.
 
Probably didn't look like it, but stream improvement. Saw an article in the past week that they are trying to increase water velocity in an effort to flush more sediment out of the stream. Took a look for the article, but couldn't put my hands on it.

Freshly placed logs and rock or did it look like it had been in there for a while? Becuase it was already loaded with logs and rocks at the next up parking area
 
New large logs and rock in the parking areas ready to be placed in the stream. Looked like they were working only at the second parking area that day. Found it interesting because as Mikey said, this section already has a significant number of older "stream improvements"with previously placed rock and log obstructions. PA fish and game truck was there but I didn't get to talk to anyone. Just hope it doesn't create too much of an artificial atmosphere. Seemed ok to me the way it was but I'm no expert.
 
Agreed, however, they were busy operating heavy equipment in the stream. Didn't want to interrupt their work. Probably wouldn't have minded but was being respectful to their jobs.
 
I find it a little strange that they would want to increase the stream velocity. I know there is a sediment problem, especially the further down you go, but wasn’t the whole point of the original improvement to slow the stream velocity to favor the brook trout?

So this is from the Nealy Road parking lot up to the next parking lot? Just making sure they aren't doing anything to my favorite spots.

I’d love it if the new work was confined to that stretch. It seems like that’s one of the only parts of the fly only that needs some work other than maybe just downstream of the bridge right below the ditch. Upstream from the first lot up from nealy looks amazing and fishes good, I don’t know why they would change it

Agreed, large portions of that section are just pure silt. I'm sure something could be done to fix that section
 
Yes, as of last weekend. May have moved to different spots if done there. I'm kinda clueless about some of the stuff. An interesting question for me is: who decides where/when to do this work, where is it relayed to the public, is there a place to see the plans etc? I'm sure there are multiple ways that this work gets initiated, approved, and made public. Please excuse my ignorance here. I'm hoping its simple, but i'm certain it's not. What I would love is if there was a list of approved projects listed, the anticipated dates, sponsored groups etc. Fish and game extensively lists stream stocking for the year down to specific longitude/latitude. Couldn't it be the same for stream work? Maybe it is. Maybe the local TU chapters may be a start? I know there are some very strong conservation minds here. Please educate me if you have some time. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Have really become fond of the stream in the last couple years. Still the dark ages for me as I refuse to be on social media so I guess I will miss some stuff.
 
Decided to check the stream out today, haven’t fished it since the work started. For anyone wondering what’s being talked about, this is what the first parking lot up from Nealy looks like. I’m excited to see what they can do with the section below the parking lot, it definitely could use some work.

Fish are doing fine (Although wtf does “native brown and rainbow” mean???)

"native brown and rainbow" seems to have originated with the excavating company website.

That's not coming from the PFBC.
