The fish are wher you find them.

There are wild trout from the mouth all the way up to were the stream is narrow enough to straddle with one foot on each bank. Wherever there is good cover, there are fish. The wild fish hide like you wouldn't believe. Some stretches are better than others but the higher you go the better it gets. Also, there are more fish than you think in the mediocre water, the just bolt at the slightest disturbance.

But yes, the stocked fish get removed one way or another.

I think this stream could easily be class A, especially with the right habitat improvements. The FFO section is so-so at best with a few very good holes. Conditions are definately good enough for spawning and year round fishing.

it is a gem of a stream. and primanti's sounds perfect!! I've been hankering for a sandwich for a while now. maybe we can pick a sat afternoon sometime after the new year. mid afternoon should get us past the lunch crowd and before the dinner crowd.

i fish little sandy quite a bit , thats why i asked how far up they fished when they said they only caught a couple. 1 thing about little sandy is it hardly ever gets blown out and never gets too warm , soo..........

We did see plenty of fish and spooked several more. Only a week earlier I had done pretty well on the same stretch of water. I fished the same area a few times in the spring when the water was slightly off-color and had some really good fish take streamers. It was just like in the fishing books. Streamers + dirty water = Bigger than average fish.

LOL, millertime, sunday night at 10 is a little late for me!! I'm in bed by then! ha ha. actually, as for a day and time for our little wild trout and barley water symposium, I was thinking maybe a saturday afternoon, that way it won;t interfere with sunday games. any weekend after the new year will work for me, I'll let you guys decide on a date.
as for a pa gazetteer, they sell em at barnes and noble. really no savings by ordering them on-line. I am planning on ordering some USGS topo maps from the gov. just have to figure out what quadangles I want to get, so many choices!!!

any saturday starting with the 16th works for me. sunday would be ok too, but sat would be better. as for time, I was thinking around 1 or 2 in the afternoon, tail end of lunch crowd, way before dinner crowd. grab a table at primantis, down a sandwich and some beers, gaze at maps, talk fishing.
those are just my ideas, what do you guys think?

I'm still in on this, I just need to know when it's happening. I'm planning at this point on fishing this weekend, or at least trying to so another weekend is preferred.

Great little stream. Fished there many times with my brother. We actually used to live in Reno on route 8 between Franklin and Oil City. I get up that way several times a year. Venango is a great place to fish.

venango county is loaded with fishable water , oil creek has some of the best hatches in nw pa , sulfurs are unreal , there are midges in winter , bwo all the time dang near etc..
