I am planning on hitting the Susquehanna on Saturday. Can someone let me know an access spot that has wading opportunities? I am not too familiar with the mighty Susquehanna. I might be hitting a Cumberland County stream earlier so if there is anything along 11, that would be cool. The other side near Dauphin would work too. I don't need any honey holes or anything. Just somewhere I can wade and fish. Thanks!

Any boat launch has access. I'd suggest watching the river gauge. It to storm Wednesday & Thursday. It's pretty low at this moment but could jump big making wading impossible / dangerous. Falmouth or junction with Swattie are 2 decent spots to explore
You'll also want to bring no fear of going in over your head...it happens. Wear long pants so you don't get cut up when you fall.....and you will fall often. It's brutal wading.

Thanks Kray! It has been a while since I fished it. One summer about 20 years ago, we fished it every weekend for the whole summer it seemed. I know we fished around Dauphin somewhere, but can't remember. I think we kind of winged it every weekend. That was when the river was in top form. What a blast. I remember having my Mister Twister dangling in the water while lighting a smoke. Those smallies would still hit the twister. Unreal.
I got into fly fishing shortly after that and focused on trout. I still smallie fish on the Delaware and Schuylkill, but never ventured back to the Susqua because of all the bad reports. I am very happy to hear things are improving.

This is how my buddy described the fishing (22/322 bridge on up) on the Susky, almost verbatim. He did say the algae was mainly on the Juniata and not a big issue on the Susky, right now. I'll be up there (Duncannon) Friday, Sat, and Sunday. A little tree work and a LOT of bass fishing.
I can see algae in the drift being an issue. We put in w the campground in Duncannon and it was an issue until we got away from the inflow of the J. With that said, the Juniata was very clear and the Susky was slight to moderate stained.
What baffles me is the up and down flow on the Harrisburg gauge. 8500 - 12000 - 8500. Don't remember seeing any rain upstate. Do they drop the inflatable dam in Sunbury?
+1 to Dave W's warning. The section between Duncannon and Harrisburg is brutal wading. Twisted knee, bloodied shins and jammed wrist are distinct possibilities due to ruggedness of the river bottom. One thing you want to watch is allowing yourself enough time to get back to shore. You get caught up chasing fish, getting to possible fish holding spots and next thing ya know.....it's almost dark. The walk back to shore that you think will take 15 minutes actually takes you an hour or more. Unless you are very familiar with the area, feeling your way out in the dark will be something you regret. LOL. Wading a mile up river on Penns....in bowling shoes at midnight would be easier.

i am planning on heading out this weekend. Not sure on which day and times yet, but I'm flexible. Could be Fri, Sat and Sunday. Was thinking of putting my boat in (14' Koffler RMT) usually put in at a launch and use a tolling motor to go upstream and drift down, or anchor and wade etc.
Anyway, it will just be me so I will have a spare seat it anyone is interested in joining me.
I'm pretty open to dates and times so if anyone is we can work out the details.

Krayfish....I was thinking of putting in down in Enola where the Connie comes in and working my way up. Never fished that section before.
Or going up near Liverpool to those 3 launches off Rt 11. Been there and have had a little success.
I'm watching the weather myself and thinking the same thing. Last night it was 7400cfs and already it's up at 8000. Still ok in my book. I think the last time it was out it was 9500-10,000 and I had no issues.
I am also very cautious as well. So I guess we can keep an eye on in. Hopefully it will be ok. Go figure it's gonna rain heavy before the weekend. I did some scouting yesterday and it's "low" low as I've ever seen it.

The flow isn't my concern. I've run the narrows in an inflatable pontoon at 25,000. I worried tha visibility will be 1" which typically slows down the fish catching pretty dramatically. Let's see what mother nature gives us. The local weather guy is saying close to 2" .

Well, the link below doesn't look promising. I'm guessing the Juniata, Connie, Shermans, Swattie, Yello Breeches and other feeders will all be blowing really muddy water. The height isn't a concern but clarity is. Since I live 2 minutes away, I'll run down after work Friday and see how bad it is. Probably a "dust off the golf clubs" type of weekend

Looks to be about 2' of clarity and H-burg gauge leveling out. Unless big slug of water is headed this way, should be ok. Winds will be favorable for Saturday float and in / across for Sunday.
