Some pretty cool moths

I was at my cabin this weekend and came out the door early Saturday am and found these two neat moths sitting on the siding beside the door less than 2 feet apart. Did a little research to positively ID them.

Well, they bug me. 😉 I've been lucky with ticks though, haven't experienced Lyme Disease, yet.

I've seen two Luna Moths in my fife which were pretty cool to see, although they couldn't have been observed in two more diverse areas....

One was in very urban/suburban Delco sitting on a parapet near a light outside of an old Wawa, (with old defined as small in a strip, NO gas, limited groceries and only sliced meats available at a deli counter) that was a hangout when I was a kid.

The second was one that was perched on a tree near a small camping lantern I was using when tailgating dinner around 11:00 pm along the Left Branch of Young Woman's Creek.

Yeah, Luna moths are really neat to see as well as Cecropia moths, but there are lots of other interesting moths as well.

Some of the caterpillars that turn into these moths are even just as neat! Here is the caterpillar for the Blinded Sphinx - pretty cool!

Had a big moth at work first thing this morning about a 5" diameter brown moth. Other workers thought it was a small bird.
Luna moths are green and about 6" in diameter we have had those here before. They are attracted to the lights in the parking lot.
The bigger the cooler.

I saw my first hummingbird moth last summer on the butterfly bush outside my house last August. The photo is blurry because of its movement.

IMO Hummingbirds are one of the coolest birds flying. Their ability to hover is something to see. Pretty little birds too.
