I went out to western maryland on monday morning and then fished half a day on tuesday. Monday the flows were 350 cfs which is pretty high, they dropped it on tuesday to about 180 cfs, which is a little more manageable. The water temps were a steady 39 degrees, the air temps made it into the low 40s in the middle of the day. There were no hatches to speak of. With a steady diet of midges, san juans and dead drifted buggers I was able to do pretty well. No small fish, no big fish just alot of fish in the 12-15 inch range. Needless to say finding slow moving water on the edges was the key. Where I was able to find that the fish were stacked up. Here are some pics.

Very nice fish. Never made my way out there but maybe some day. Sort of surprised you didn't see any eating midges on top with those temps? Any midges in the air?

Fox, anytime you want to go let me know, I'd be happy to show you around. I saw a handful of midges in the air, not many. The flows were very high for that river, I'm sure that had something to do with it too.

Thanks Ryan- I really appreciate that and will definitely take you up on it. Will send a PM.

Beautiful fish Ryan.

I'll give you credit for both the fish and being one of the few FFers I've ever seen that carry more tippet spools than I do. Nice job!

Ryan I'm coming down w/ 2 noobies at the end of March/early April. Plan on camping out one night (Friday into Saturday). Will let you know the dates for sure when I finalize it.

Thanks afish and you're not the first one to notice! If you cant tell I'm kind of a tippet junkie, ok gear junkie. Yeah I have two spools, one flouro, one mono. Normally 1-7 but with the water way up this week I only took 1-5 mono, 2-6 flouro, kind of tough to make 5x work on 22 midge. So it was a less than usual tippet day

Fox, that would be awesome, please do. Squatch let me know the dates, love that time of year.

I'll let you know soon. Last year I drug them down to Shenandoah. I told them this year we'll fish some place where we don't have to hike in 2 miles just to get to the stream!

When I fished the Upper Savage around Thanksgiving the water levels were horrible, has the reservoir filled any?

Yes, it was almost full when they jumped the flows to 350. They brought the reservoir back down to winter levels. The upper savage and the tribs had great levels as well, water levels not an issue.
