I headed up with two other guys on friday. Got in around midnight, and was full of red bull so I didn't sleep. I laid there, half awake, for 3 hours until the alarm went off.

Waded around the river like a zombie, starting at first light. Fished globugs, stones, and trout beads. It was cold, wet, and miserable. Nobody was catching any fish in any of the spots we hit that morning (trestle, altmar). As the day went on, we moved around and saw a few fish hooked at the schoolhouse pool, so we found a few stretches and fished it real hard. I hooked one but lost it. Saw one fish landed the whole time I was there.

Finally, headed to Pineville, and hiked way upriver to fish a deep run up against the near bank. The water was really fast and dark, so I liked the looks of the spot. Finally nailed one on a flesh fly behind about three pounds of lead (3 bb split shot spread out). He ran all over the place. Threw some bad slack in my line with a jump, and I swore real loud, thinking I lost him. I reeled in a few feet of slack and he was still there. Got him to the net after a few minutes. Real nice fish. I'll post a pic this time, I promise.

Today was sleet, wind, and snow. Seeing this, we decided to oversleep. Got to the river around 9 and saw one or two fish hooked. Me and another guy caught a fingerling and a jack respectively. The fingerling was the size of a typical PA stocker rainbow, but beautiful looking. The jack was maybe 14 inches.

Saw a few beautiful browns on stringers and one hooked. They were pretty sparse. I'll have to go to Oak for one after all.

The trib fishing can be really hit or miss Jay. I'm glad you were able to bring one to hand at least. Can't wait to see the picture!

Jay, did you guys hit the Paper mill? From there down to Trooper is good steel holding area from what the locals tell me. I want to try to get up there late winter/early spring this year. I'm thinking maybe early April. Let me know if you're in.

Boyer,

I don't think so. We did a good bit of walking, but I don't think we passed through that area. I'll keep it in mind next time.

We saw most people catching fish around the schoolhouse. Saw a few hooked way upstream of pineville, but there were way less fishermen. That's where I got mine.

I'm in for the trip. Just let me know when.

Pic is coming, hopefully today. I'll be sad to see it, as the fish has grown in my memory. When I post it, I'll write a little more about how I caught it.

Jay whats the ETA on this pic ?

My friend said "tonight" a few times now. Sigh...

My sister will have her baby before this pictures is posted and she just conceived last Friday!

They say that the window panes in old European cathederals are thicker at the bottom than at the top due to the effect of gravity over time (hundreds of years). I can only imagine how distorted the pic of this brown might be when we finally see it...

:-D 🙂 :-o 😎

Yes, it's been so long that the steelhead has now turned into a brown!

Maybe the rainbow pattern on the side of the fish is from all the distortion and it really is a brown?

It's dime bright. There is nothing but silver and gray/blue on this thing.

PS. You've got mail.

Here it is....

:-D

You can't pull that on me...I can tell from the pixels that the picture is photoshopped!!
I counted them and it's over by 21.5 pixels...Although JayL looks better in that perfectly fitting ball cap than any other picture I've seen of him, so maybe the photoshop works.
🙂
