I headed up with two other guys on friday. Got in around midnight, and was full of red bull so I didn't sleep. I laid there, half awake, for 3 hours until the alarm went off.
Waded around the river like a zombie, starting at first light. Fished globugs, stones, and trout beads. It was cold, wet, and miserable. Nobody was catching any fish in any of the spots we hit that morning (trestle, altmar). As the day went on, we moved around and saw a few fish hooked at the schoolhouse pool, so we found a few stretches and fished it real hard. I hooked one but lost it. Saw one fish landed the whole time I was there.
Finally, headed to Pineville, and hiked way upriver to fish a deep run up against the near bank. The water was really fast and dark, so I liked the looks of the spot. Finally nailed one on a flesh fly behind about three pounds of lead (3 bb split shot spread out). He ran all over the place. Threw some bad slack in my line with a jump, and I swore real loud, thinking I lost him. I reeled in a few feet of slack and he was still there. Got him to the net after a few minutes. Real nice fish. I'll post a pic this time, I promise.
Today was sleet, wind, and snow. Seeing this, we decided to oversleep. Got to the river around 9 and saw one or two fish hooked. Me and another guy caught a fingerling and a jack respectively. The fingerling was the size of a typical PA stocker rainbow, but beautiful looking. The jack was maybe 14 inches.
Saw a few beautiful browns on stringers and one hooked. They were pretty sparse. I'll have to go to Oak for one after all.
