Petroleum grease

The maintenence instructions for my new reel recommend regularly lubricating the spindle with petroleum grease. This seems likely to attract crud. Is there a specific brand I should use?

Rem. dry lub gun lubricant. Is what I use,just remember to use the small tube or it sprays every where .
