My buddy and I hit Penns on the with hopes of taking advantage of some warmer weather. As it turned out it was a great day. Got on the water around 9:00 am air temp. was about 26 degrees F, water temp unknown, no ice. Cloudy, slightly foggy and overcast. I think the gauge was reading around 260CFM so it was low but great color.

We fished until about 3:30 with the air temp reaching 41 degrees F. Between the two of us, we managed to land 5 and and hook at least an additional 6 or so. No rising fish to be seen. Saw a few small midges coming off but very little bug activity. Woven Golden Stone fly was the ticket and landed one on a Hares Ear also. Had a great time spending time with my buddy even though it wasn't a stellar day just to be on the water made it a great day. Stopped by the Hook to see Jonas, man that guy just makes me laugh. We Just had intentions on popping in to say hello, an hour later a we were still there.

If anyone is looking for waders he has Dan Baileys on sale right now. picked up some for my son.......and so it begins.

I am jealous. The Feathered Hook should be renamed "Jonas' House of Fly Fishing Needs and Standup Comedy." I have never fished Penns in the deep winter. I would call 4-5 trout a huge success no matter where I was on New Year's Eve.

Thanks for the report. Five trout in a day on Penns, would be a good day for me anytime.

Dan Baileys waders, are a good choice, I've had good luck with mine.

Great report. I was in Centre County on the 27th, 28th and 29th. I thought water temps would be too cold to fish Penns so I stuck to Spring Creek. I got skunked pretty good on Spring... guess I will still keep Penns as an open option for winter fishing.

I wish I could agree. I had mine for less than 6 weeks and the leaked. I tried contacting Dan Bailey and they never got back to me. I heard the central PA shops are going to stop carrying them due to poor performance. Maybe that's why they were on sale. Hopefully for you'll have the luck with them that Paul has.
