This is not rocket surgery. Op could have went to Walmart, bought a new set of buckles, thread, and a needle then fixed the pack in the time it takes to read this thread.

Last time I fished, it was still holding with one prong broken. So I'm actually taking an even simpler approach and doing absolutely nothing (while hoping someone turns up with the full OG piece off an old pack).

Don't have a 2nd opening WITHOUT a slot like adjustable buckles do, putting the webbing through the opening & sewing is only an improvement IF the stitching is right against the plastic part with the slot so the webbing can't budge.

In most cases, regular sewing machines with a presser foot aren't suited to stitching so close, and as a result, it probably would NOT be immune to slipping off.

PALS webbing is completely different animal, but most cops & military folks I know use T-bar or snap bar options for PALS webbing attachment on their tactical gear versus slip on buckles.

BTW - That male buckle will NOT mate with the female side of the broken buckle on the OP's sling pack.

Speaking of T-Bars & snab bars: if the channel width on the PALS webbing on the sling pack shoulder strap is the standard 1.5", a T-Bar or one of the other Bartact Repair Buckles could be used in leiu of the Orvis slider/buckle abobination here:

it was obviously so obvious that I didn’t think to mention that he would have to switch both ends? That thing ain’t coming off a 1” strap. You can’t even get them off without some sort of tool/pliers. Plainly obvious you have zero experience with them

I'm just riding it out for now. As I mentioned above, the strap hasn't failed completely yet. If someone by chance comes through with the actual Orvis component, I'll be pumped, but otherwise I'm sure I can find replacement clips at a hobby store, Army/Navy, etc. locally when it becomes absolutely necessary 👍

Completely understand, I’d want the original replacement, too, if possible. I’ve been looking for a rod tip for 15 years😂

Maybe try taking a picture of the clip/buckle and do a google image search, if you haven’t already. You might find the same style replacements (they look strikingly similar to the buckles on my simms waders, except they’re plastic)
