I have a hard time seeing it passing. Oregon, despite its 'woke' profile from outsiders, is, like Vermont, a hunting and fishing state. I'll certainly be fighting against it.

Only 700,000 fishing licenses sold in PA would be easy to do. Then we would not have an issue stocking over wild.....
Another example is "Woke" adding unnecessary ambiguity of language. This thread went the exact way of the one attempting to regulate fur.

whether it passes or not isn't the point. It's more that there are that many people who think like that. What's the over-under? 70% have leather seats, chairs and belts. As other said feed their cats/dogs meat products?

That was my thought too. That and the ratio of sportspeople to the general population. Ask a young person what they do with their time off and it is computer games. It is not following tracks, hiking streams, or even shooting weapons. They shoot keyboard weapons on computer screens on teams made up of friends online.
real issue is Sportspeople are falling out of outdoor activities faster than they can be recruited in.

That and the stewards of the outdoors within our government largely end up being milquetoast politicians. Why is that woman from Pittsburgh leading up the fisheries and game committee in Harrisburg? Has she ever shot a gun or held a fishing rod in her life?

Once a proposal hits the ballot box, rather than run it course through the legislature, it s pretty much do or die. if it fails you'll never see it again. This may be the strategy. There are over 4million people in Oregon. It wouldn't be crazy that they might have 62,000 vegans. and some guy will sing it in front of some girl he's trying to impress. Sometimes you just gotta let the kid stick his finger in the ourtet and find out for himself.

I've used cat fur as dubbing lots. That's why we have five house cats in various colorations.
In 2021, recreational fishing was worth just south of 900 million dollars to the Oregon economy.

It's easy to get someone to sign a petition since a lot of times it gets some annoying putz out of your space. A solid percentage of that 92,000 won't vote for it, and some of them won't vote at all. Also, there's the matter of the signatures usually need to be from registered voters and confirmed as such. Most petition drives usually seek to exceed the required number by 10 percent or so to account for double signers and non-registered voter signers. At this rate, it may not even end up on the ballot, but if it does, even if every signer (117,000 plus) voted for it, it fails miserably. There's more than 3 million registered voters in the state, and on a non-presidential year, about 75 percent show up.
In 2024, there were about 500,000 fishing licenses, and 700,000 people issued deer permits. No doubt plenty of crossover, but they account for a much bigger block of voters than PETA could hope to amass. Inexplicably, PETA gets hunters and anglers riled up as though it were a big deal organization, but it's like one crying baby in a crowded church: it makes a lot of noise, but doesn't have much of an overall effect.
(Interestingly, PETA claims 91,000 members in Oregon, which means they've actually gathered 1,000 signatures.)
