I hit Oil Creek yesterday for a few hours. It was a gray day and started out chilly. It warmed to about 60 with a bit of sun peaking through the clouds before I left around 2. I spent the day walking and looking for risers. The morning was a bit slow until about 8:45-9:00 when fish started rising to emerging grannoms. I caught fish on a low riding pattern. The fishing slowed again at about 11:00 and picked up again at around noon when I found a pool with a dozen or so fish sporadically rising to grannom egg layers that were dancing on the water. I caught several fish and stung a few more.

There was one rainbow that really made my day. This fish was rising consistently every 2-3 minutes. I spent almost a half hour carefully working this fish before my fly was in the zone at the right time. The fish finally slurped in the fly. I set the hook and this rainbow shot out of the water making a couple of spectacular leaps. It was one of those moment all fly fisherman live for. Just sharing the experience gets my blood pumping!

I also met a nice gentleman who was kind enough to share grannom pattern he tied up and was doing well with. I love this kind of camaraderie in fly fishing. It's part of what make this sport so special.

Nice report thanks for sharing. I miss Oil Crik

Over the past few years, I've hooked nice rainbows in Oil Creek that pulled incredibly hard. Not all of them, but in my recollection, having been catching rainbows there on a fly since about 1986, the ones now are bigger and way more lively. A big one in a strong glide or riffle will put up quite a fight.

Good to hear you saw some dark caddis. I wrote those off for the year last week when I didn't see any.

Syl
