lots of rain in central PA this weekend

With the strength of the El Niño this year - we are certainly in for something!

I’ll be in Canada for the next week so I’ll miss this good rain and fishing.

2018 was the same here in MD. I fished 30 or 40 *new* streams that year because they were fishable all summer. Since then every summer is basically a no go for local trout.

Last year I had a great week fishing Penn’s and the gauge was between 740-900 cfs the entire time. Lots of fun fish on dry flies and drakes, although I caught most fish on streamers and wetflys. Hoping for a similar experience this week!
 
I am going to take a walk down to the creek. I’ll post a picture. Lots of people fishing between Weikert and the FC parking lot. We had far more rain in Weikert compared to Coburn.
 
This was taken behind AFMRO for those familiar with Weikert.

The water is pretty clear, which doesn't represent well in the picture.

The guy landed a nice sized trout.

Lots were rising and jumping.

I’ve seen Penns creek trout rise to drakes even when the water is high and brown
The flies are so big, that the fish can still see them
Especially along the banks
 
The Valley Creek watershed received almost 3 inches of rain in the past 4 day with the potential for more. I believe that we are still about 5 inches of precipitation below where we should be year to date.

Upper spring creek at noon Sunday. Chocolate milk, heavy flows. The local streams took the first 1-1.3 inch of rain from yesterday well. Spring creek was clear last night and I fished a spinner fall. Last night's 1.3 in of rain was too much for the streams to handle

Middle Spring was still kind of dirty last night. Fishable, but a bit dirty. Few sulphurs and BWos. More small fish taking midges than anything else. At dark more fish were taking sulphur patterns. I'm starting to wonder if they are winding down.
 
We are having some light showers in the Del. Val. Another .1 inch. Every drop counts. I wonder if a cloudy day like today has a 2 fold impact; 1) the increase in precipitation; and 2) cloudy skies reduce the water uptick from the trees and other greens?
 
We got between .9 - 1.2 inches of rain in South Jersey. We are still an inch short of average for July. How are the central Pennsylvania and northern areas making out?
