Definitely need the rain all over the state. Might be bad for fishing in the short term, but near term it'll be good.

It’s the most overhyped hatch anyway. The rivers and streams need this rain.

Dear Broodstock,
This weekend plus of rain looks like it will be actual rain. The type that flows steadily all throughout the day. We are supposed to get 1.5 to 1.75 inches in the Harrisburg region, but that will be spread over 4 days where it will actually have the opportunity to get in the ground.

From a fishing standpoint I agree. As a spectacle, it is well worth experiencing. Unless you can't handle large bugs in your face, I think it is worth seeing, angler or not.

Green Drakes aren’t my favorite hatch to fish either. But they’re my favorite hatch to sit on a rock and drink a beer to.

Dear Swattie,
We get them a couple of times each Summer. Sometimes, they come a few days apart too. Last May was the perfect example. We got 1.5 inches of rain in 30 minutes three times a week. It comes so fast and furious that those rain events do absolutely nothing except muddy up the larger streams and rivers for weeks.

Dear Swattie,
I knew what you meant, I was just flashing back to last May. That's why measured precipitation isn't necessarily indicative of ground moisture which is far more important. We were well ahead going into Summer last year but most of that never actually got into the ground. I remember weeks of rain when I was a kid and even an adult where 1/2 inch of rain fell several times a week and did good. 1996 was the last year I remember with multiple bouts of steady rain. Since then, it's been deluges and then weeks of nothing.

Summers of 2018 and 2019 were both very wet. I remember this distinctly that I didn’t Bass fish much, if at all, those Summers. The big Bass creeks were constantly blown out and the little headwater Trout streams were constantly dialed in it seemed. Explored a lot of new water and caught a lot of wild Trout those Summers. Felt like, and may have been, every weekend, with some PTO being expended during the week at times too.

Last year when I fished the drakes I think I fished it at 800CFS+, still a lot of fun. I was ill prepared and relied on a green drake fly I got from the flybrary at the tunnel 🤣
