fished the little schuylkill dhalo section today.. water was a bit high. Still caught a few though. Wouldnt touch anything but a white woolly bugger.

I stopped by in the evening to check on angler usage. It was certainly not crowded an those who were there were catching a few fish on honeybugs and spinners. I was pleased that the entire DH area was float stocked so, if past experiences are any indication, the entire length should provide good fishing. No need to wait for the fish to spread out. The volunteer floaters did a great job!

yeah, i know the guys who float stocked it.. great idea, guarantees great fishing for months to come

and, do you drive the suv that pulled up at about 5 30 ish? if so i think i talked to you

Mike, do you depend upon the volunteers to provide the equipment for float stocking such as floating tanks and such or does PFBC provide that?

I know of only one WCO who has constructed float "boxes." In that case they were actually modified plastic barrels (35 gal I think) of the type that Maurice's crew uses on Muddy Creek. I would say that in 99% of the cases that I have seen the sportsmen have constructed the float "boxes." I would add that I have seen trout floated downstream in rubber rafts filled with water (the individuals walked along the rafts, guiding them downstream and scooping trout out every so often).

I like the raft and waders option. What other devices and constructions have you or anyone else seen. Which are best and why?

Much of the float stocking in my neck of the woods in done by TU volunteers. In many cases, they use home made wooden boxes. These would be square, about 3' on each side and made of boards about an inch thick and about 15" tall. The bottom of the box is enclosed with narrow mesh wire and a couple of the box sides have added foam floating material and rope handles. I've really only seen this type and the plastic barrel type that Mike described. I've often thought it might work to lash 2 or 3 of these type containers to the side of a canoe and walk it downstream if one were limited to a couple guys.

How about a large innertube from a tractor tire? I suppose you can suspend a cage from the inside diameter with ropes tied around the tube. Thanks. Any other ideas?

Something cheap and light like this would work just fine I would think:

Used a boat with built in floatation filled with water and fish to stock.

Jack,

FYI, I found these pics of stocking boxes that are boxes on the FBC site. Deer Creek Tri County Trout Club:
