Lititz Run, Lancaster County, Lower Meadow, 09/28/2009

Fished Lititz Run for an hour on Monday evening. Began at the big pool below the stone bridge on the Thompson farm. Fish were rising sporadically to what appeared to be midges, but I only picked up one fish (a sunny that most of the browns in there would inhale) on a sz. 20 Griffith's gnat.

Switched to tandem nymph rig with a sz 18 olive bead head GRHE and brown SJW. Picked up a beautiful 6" rainbow that appeared to be wild. As it got darker, I switched to a sz 8 black slump buster and started pounding the banks. Hooked into and lost one nice brown in the riffle by the willow trees before I had to pack it in and head for home.

Stream was in fantastic shape. Lots of water with a bit of a tint to it, which made approaching the fish a little easier.

Man I gotta hit Lititz again... I only know how to get to two places to fish. The TU section near the preztel store and below that cow pasture on the other bank from where TU built the structure. Can anyone else give me a spot or two on the map?

I grew within a half mile of Lititz Run and I must say that I enjoy fishing NC PA much more than Lititz Run. Look at a map of Lititz Run and find Creek Road near the mouth. The section of creek Road between Millport Road and Oregon Road (PA722) is the section that you want to fish. Above that is permit only fishing, and additionally there is a small section of open water near town that gets a lot of bait fisherman pressure but has been known to hold wild rainbows in the past. I would stick to the section along northern Creek Road if you are driving a significant distance to fish.

this is the latest fish i pulled from there....see if you can reconize the hole its from

this brown trout went 27 inches long and weight 8lbs.

i put him back though for another time

WOW that toad is almost as long as the stream is wide

What did you catch it on? Floating Duck pattern? Amazing fish for a stream that size!

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Sal has caught that very same Hog!

i caught it on a size 16 green scud. That is my go to fly on this stream. Everytime that i have fished it i used that fly and done really well on it. I am new to the lancaster area is there any other good trout waters down here

i am not susprised that someone else caught it...its right in the park is where i caught him at....i am more susprised that he is still there and that no one took him....i have having a mount of him done i should have it back by feb i will post it on here when it comes back!

If you look thru the photo section you might see him. Or search the stream reports for lititz run and maybe a pic of him there.

If you're saying this fish was caught in the Riparian Park, then no, I'm sure this is not the same hog Sal and Spector have caught. That fish was further down in the C & R area. If this guy was in the Riparian Park, it is hard to believe that he got that big being that it is stocked and is hit hard in the spring as a "put and take" section.

crs4592 saw a big hog like this cruising those waters a few months back when we were fishing it...

How are you getting a mount done if you put the fish back?

Man, this is an old thread. No that's not the brown I caught a few times now. He was way, way down stream in the C&R area. I haven't seen your particular brown before.
That pic is the handicapped deck from the Riparian Park. The park gets stocked pretty heavily. However there used to be a few hogs upstream in the no fishing water by the hatchery that I haven't seen in a while. Could have been one of those from up there.

Wow...that is a fine brownie. Keep up the good work and I hope that mount turns out good for you. I am interested to find out if your doing a replica or a skin mount as well.

They recently did some work up there with running a water line under the stream. I was told from a very reliable source that there was at least one "hog" up there under the shelf the stream dumps over. They thought they were going to have do divert the stream to do the work, but didn't have to.

I can't believe a fish that size would survive in the Riparian Park through the pounding it takes. I wonder if, as you say, it didn't get flushed out of its upstream holding area...

Its possible it survived also. Lititz is a small stream and trout are very skittish in it, as with most small spring creeks.

More likely it swam up from the Banta posted property or came down from the hatchery. Great fish BTW! :-D

There were a few hogs in that pool. A brown and a rainbow. There was also a big brown up by the footbridge. That water line work is what made me think this brown was from up there and got pushed out with all the comotion.
From the hatchery down the stream is pretty devoid of holding water until you get to the park.
