So i have a uneducated question for the experts . I caught these 2 brook trout a couple of days ago but im curious of why these 2 trout are marked so differently? Is it simply age?

Congrats on the Native ST experience - the size of the eyes is one reliable indicator - many Native Brooks have HUGE mouths too - colors and fin condition are also telltale signs - here’s wishing you many more of our State Fish! These two are years apart in age with size and parr marks (those purple patches) on the younger fish are giveaways. Treat all of them like the treasures they are!

Fish gotta eat everyday - Bobs stays cooler in Summer thanks to good canopy in the upper stretches - I really don’t fish it that much - but hatches in the spring, terrestrials in summer, and some hatches again in fall - can’t go wrong with a #14 Tan Elk Hair Caddis with a #16 Pheasant tail dropper 18 inches behind the Caddis from late April to early October - if you’ve got to fish Summer flows (I don’t if the water is above 65F) then use a big #14 black ant with an orange poly sighter - post pix or it didn’t happen!

Thanks. Yes I would worry about catching them when the water is warm. I assume it can be quite stressful and harmful.to them

I took extreme caution handling them and the stocked rainbows i caught.
Wet hands, quick photo and gently placed back in the pool they were caught in
