Ligioner on Wednesday

Well it's almost tome for my first trip to PA fly fishing for trout. Well be staying in ligioner.
Im sure hoping the weather man is wrong. Im seeing rain and thunderstorms all 4 days!

How do the trout react to alot of rain?
Do the local waters get effected much by rain or do they stay pretty consistent as far as water levels? Ugh now im stressing out.

If you try the DHALO section of the Loyalhanna, expect colored up water for a couple days after a good storm. If it rains for four straight days, you won't be wading in it. I find that fishing in the Loyalhanna is only as good as the stocking schedule. It's basically a decent creek for anyone who wants to fish in it... not what one would call a destination fishery. I can't speak for the tribs and smaller creeks in that part of Westmoreland County.

Wow can't believe I'm just hearing this...was the best part about fishing in Ligonier! 💔 At least I won't miss the on-the-water heartburn if I ever go back.

Linn Run might come down the fastest of the close creeks. You can also fish any of the public land creeks on the west slope of laurel ridge, the higher up you go the smaller they are and less impacted by rain.

Well, my friend and I fished it Saturday May 2. Water was up a little but wadeable. It was chilly but we didn’t start fishing till noon. I started at my favorite hole. I started with a Picket Pin, then went to a chartreuse mop fly and then to pink sucker spawn. After the first cast with the sucker spawn, I decided to add a second BB of split shot. On the first cast, I caught a rainbow. I then caught five more in a row. They stopped hitting after that. My old knees were beat so I got out. My friend caught a few several hundred yards downstream. Spoke to a couple guys spin fishing but they didn’t have any luck. We’ve been fishing this stream for well over thirty years. I’ve had some big days on the stream. Don’t know if it’s not stocked as much or what the story is.

You’ll want to stop at The Pie Shoppe. Far more than just pies in there. You’ll figure it out when you walk in. Donuts and pepperoni rolls are next level.

I would suggest this place https://www.foggy mountain lodge.com/ not sure about the lodging but it seems like a beautiful place. The food was great, wife and I both had the wild mushroom ravioli. Splendito! Very close to your target area. Don’t be afraid to expand your search, there’s great streams on the other side of the ridge from there.

I'm looking at the weather channel app.
Shows pretty much all day rain and strong thunderstorms on Wednesday, steady moderate rain all day on Thursday

All kidding aside, how has the fishing been in the area?
Im really wanting to fish some small water for brookies and browns. Ive never caught either so they are my main goal in 4 days of fishing. If anyone has a tip or stream to try please 🙏 let me know. Im not asking for anyone's secret spot ( unless your feeling generous) i just need the right place to start fishing

You can do both.

Buy pepperoni rolls. Fish in the rain. Eat pepperoni rolls for lunch (preferably warmed up on a small backpacking stove).
