Keeping a couple of not?

My 82 year old neighbor fished and hunted his whole life and still does to some extent asked my to bring a couple trout home for him to eat , said he'd like to grill one and possibly smoke one, I think I'm going to bring him home a couple from my next trip to EB CLARION, what are your all thoughts,
 
If they're stocked fish, I would.

If they're not stocked fish, I'd fish a stream that was stocked and kill those fish.

Stocked fish are like doritos they'll make more.

I wish they would make the original taco flavored Doritos again. They were the best! 😉

I agree. Many of the stocked streams do not holdover trout during the hot months, so predators would just eat them if you do not.

Dear Tim,

I thought Doritos tasted different than when I was a kid. Now I understand it. I agree they did taste better.
 
I wouldnt even ask thoughts from people here on the forum about killing a couple stockers...your a grown man do what you think you should do....so many fish are lost in the hatcheries before they even get stocked and they go to waste. So eat em up. Some times i kill stockie bows too and dont think twice about it

I think everyone should either kill sh!t occasionally or go vegan. Get em.

That's the OG Doritos flavor that I loved! I haven't seen them in eons though.

Edited to add - It looks like all the CVS drugstores have them, I'll do some recon tomorrow!

Eat a couple! I like saltwater fish more, so I am more likely to keep striped bass and fluke to eat. Like said above, it is good to remind yourself it's still essentially blood sport.

Better to eat them than fight them on a trico and 8X so long they bend up with lactic acid like the letter C and become snapping turtle food.
 
Keep your limit if you want. I keep some for other people. We smoke them on racks in a smokehouse. Salt, pepper.. Fillet,skin on with the skin face down on rack.
That said, I don't keep fish over there. Probably 3/4 people I run in to over there travel 1+ hour to fish there and I feel like releasing the fish gives them more of a chance to catch a few in August. Maybe a fish I release in July will be some kid ,camping up at the dam on Labor Day, first trout. If a friend requested trout right now I would go somewhere there is stocked trout and better natural reproduction after a good rain. Or maybe WB below fly stretch ,water temps will be too warm in a few weeks for them to live. Or keep the ones with bird scars. But ,that's just me. You gotta know what will work for you.
 
For sure, go catch that ol boy some fresh trout.
Bonk em, Bleed em, Gut em. He'll appreciate it.
 
I kept a couple rainbows for him today, I didn't keep the fish in these pictures just wanted to show there colors,very different colors today,these 2 brown same area, different colors and this rainbow,these were returned,kept him a couple from a DHALO area,these other ones were caught Dam near by paper mill on EB CLARION,I walked my arse off today but got into water I've never fished

Good man. I’m all in on killing rainbows this time of year in most creeks. And in a wild brown creek with a solid population, i am fine with killing 2 or 3 from time to time.

There’s a clear difference in flavor between a wild fish and one that’s farmed.

And as far as I’m concerned, smoking is the best way to have stockers.
 
He wants more maybe I'll keep the ones deep hooked or bleeding,you know the ones you question survivability,of course stockers ,he may have to wait till fall ,
