Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum so I thought I’d introduce myself. I’m a UK and US citizen who’s spent most of my life going back and forth between the two countries. I moved back to PA permanently in September after spending the last two years in the UK, where I learned to fly fish on some of the historic chalk streams in the Cotswolds, mainly the rivers Frome and Coln. I live around the Philly suburbs, but my parents have a farm up in Monroe County, so I spend most weekends exploring the trout streams around there.

Since moving back, I’ve struggled quite a bit to adjust to the fishing here, especially finding good wild trout water. I’ve had about six full-day outings, often stopping at multiple streams, with three trips specifically looking for brook trout and another three targeting wild browns. So far, I’ve only managed one wild brown trout and haven’t caught a single brook trout. The other eight or nine fish I’ve caught have all been stocked or holdover rainbows. It’s been a bit frustrating, especially coming from England where I mainly fished dries and nymphs for wild brown trout on smaller, clear streams.

I’m particularly keen to catch my first wild PA brook trout, so I’d really appreciate any advice on finding suitable water and how to approach fishing for them. I joined the forum to learn more about PA’s trout streams, get some advice from local anglers, and hopefully meet a few people who fish in the area. Preferably advice beyond “check the PA Class A streams list” or “go blue lining near you”, as I’ve already given myself that advice about a hundred times with little to show for it!

Looking forward to learning from everyone. Tight lines!

Welcome aboard! 🙂

Welcome to the club. Monroe county, that’s Poconos right? Been many years for me but I remember the scout reservation up at Resica falls.

It’s been years since there, but fishing was very good. We actually rented a cabin there and walked to the stream (Bushkill creek).

Plenty of trout fishing in that area for sure.

Resica is beautiful, the piano pool has history.

You need permission from the Council that runs Resica, that one is Cradle of Liberty Council from Philly.
