Wooly,
While I'm a believer in global warming, you can't use specific examples to prove the case one way or another. There were always droughts and wet periods, warm and cool seasons, and there always will be. In no way can you use even a several week, even several month exceptional period and attribute it to either side of the argument. It takes years, perhaps decades, of measurement, and you're looking for averages, not peaks and valleys, that are higher and statistically significant. Its a noisy system, the standard deviation is much higher than the signal you're after, and thus you need boatloads of data.
Thats the biggest mistake both sides make in that debate. The skeptics look at this colder than average winter and say that look, there is no global warming. Thats a faulty view, but no more faulty than using a drought, warm spell, specific glacier melting, or a hurricane. Unfortunately science has been stripped out of the entire debate and its now just a political football.
