Dang palaminos

I think palominos are great for the kids and young folk , they look "cool" and are just fun and different . If there is a palomino in the water you prob are not in the wildest of places soooo relax and let a kid make a memory . And...... If bunch a grown men wanna go picket fence to catch a gold fish , let them cross lines and enjoy the show . 🙂

There's no problem; I just don't like them. I like natural stuff and natural things. They aren't natural.

The state stocks golden rainbows; the people love them. I understand why they do it.

I'm not a fan of sight fishing period,I like to fish green or slightly stained water that I cannot see any fish period,

I wonder what the record is for how long one has survived after stocking....not that there is any way to ever know that.

I can verify watching a hatchery escapee in the Big Spring ditch grow from 8” to over 20” within two seasons (1983-1985) - back when you could keep fish over 20” - I finally caught her on a #16 Big Spring Red Thread midge larva then released - she grew large because there was plenty of food and it was special reg water deep enough to avoid herons and such - I used to fish there frequently - then one day, she was gone - I assumed she grew large enough to take home

A number of years back, a good size golden RT was stocked pre-season in a Venango County stream. That would have been in early March. All through that season, he hung out under the same bush beside the bank. It's a busy stream, so he must have survived several hundred anglers and God only knows how many herons and mergansers. The stream is a decent wild brown trout fishery and I was down there in November counting redds and making the odd cast. He was still hanging out under the same bush. I flipped a #1 Moon-Glo Mepps Aglia a bit above him and he rushed it and ate it. He was about 17", I took him out and broiled him with some butter and garlic. He was about the worst fish I ever ate and my standards for eating fish aren't all that high..

So, he was in the creek for about 8 months, That's a long time for a stocked fish in general and especially for a golden RT.

Well in this stream they are stocked over wild trout ,but without the stocking there would be very few fish and lesser fisherman, hmmmm sounds ok to me ,it's fairly sterile cold water up top but gets better down stream,

Maybe if I accidentally hook one later in the summer it'll get smoked,I fowl hooked a big 20+ inch wild brown and it probably died ,after that I carry a cooler and ice incase it happens again, can't see wasting the thing, the dang thing inhaled a micro dungeon down into its throat ,gills bleeding the whole nine yards, felt bad

If that happened to me, I would have kept that big wild brown and just left the stream with it. If it was bleeding through the gills it likely did die. I wouldn't have wasted what would have been a delicious dinner.
Or, if I didn't eat it, I would have gotten it skin mounted, since I've yet to break the 20" mark with a wild trout.

And the streams you fish most of the time makes it much more unlikely for you to break that 20" mark..
