My wife and I drove through an animal safari on vacation and I plucked a tuft of buffalo hair from the fence. It's matted pretty bad and will need combed out. It's much softer than I would have guessed it to be. Does anyone know of a pattern tied with buffalo hair?

While I can't say I know of a pattern , I'm glad you opted for the fence and not source direct. Seeing that gentlemen in Yellowstone flung like a rag doll was a reminder just how powerful buffalo are . There is a buffalo ranch in Pa I visited as a girl , though I can't say I remember where , they had a very interesting clock in the gift shop.

There are some places in and around Quakertown & Coopersburg that raise bison for meat. Maybe it was one of those places.
We made sure we had plenty of distance between us and Mr. Buff before even pulling hair from the fence. I thought it would be long coarse hair like bucktail but it's actually very soft. It's matted bad though and will need brushed. I didn't get a lot but thought it would be nice to tie a couple conversation flies.

We haven't ever stopped there but there's a bison farm on route 30 (I think) between Somerset and Everett. There's also one closer to central PA from which Brother's restaurant in Grantham sources buffalo burgers.

I've tried bison a few times but it is EXPENSIVE compared to beef, too lean for my tastes and usually only available frozen.
If anyone in SEPA wants to visit a farm, there is Backyard Bison in Coopersburg.
They also sell hides & hair if you want to tie some flies. 😉

I think it was right after yo come down the mtn from the old Noah's Arc headed East. Coming into Bedford.
