Fished yesterday and was sorely disappointed with the insect life. Normally there is something hatching this time of year, be it olives, sulphurs, cahills, caddis, or terrestrials. Saw nothing but a few caddis yesterday. Very few fish rising (not surprising given nothing to rise to), maybe one rise every 10 minutes in sight. This makes probably 3 times this summer I've been disappointed. Has there been some event that has systematically reduced the hatches there? Let me know your experience.
 
I fished it 10 days ago.
The flat water under the power line crossing, just upstream of Ramcat access.

I found a few very sporadic risers here and there.
And ended up catching about a dozen by dark
Despite having to wait out a 2 hour thunderstorm - between 4-6 pm.

Didn't see much of anything on the water either
But was able to get strikes on a #16 gray caddis in the afternoon, before the rainstorm.
And on sulphers in the evening, after the storm.

The size of the fish caught was pretty disappointing though.
Mostly 10 inch browns, that appeared to be freshly stocked.
Did get 1 decent size rainbow - about 12 inches - right at dark.

As for the lack of hatches - I'm guessing maybe something to do with the long cold winter
I've noticed poor hatches at quite a few other places this year.
 
Took a ride down and fished from 7-9 last evening. Of course they started letting water out between the time I checked the levels earlier in the day and when I got there so the water was moving pretty fast when I fished. Picked up 2 on a squirmy and missed 2 on top.

Bug wise there was a smattering of a small greyish caddis. Otherwise I saw 1 mayfly, bigger yellowish bug, cahill maybe?

Water was ice cold.....guy wet wading above me had to be uncomfortable.
 
There was a smattering of the yellow mayflies the evening I fished
I used a #14 sulphur dry with success
But they may have been cahills

And the casselman side of the river was brown from the rains
Limiting me to the clear water on the Ramcat side
 
If it wasn't for the fact I have to run the turnpike to get to the Yough I'd be there way more often,I am not running down 28 going through liberty tubes and then run 51 down no way in H E double hockey sticks

Was there yesterday and took two up top on size 16 caddis imitations. There's tons of fish in there, and they're feeding, but I couldn't solve the puzzle yesterday.

Guy below me chumming the water with corn and then throwing out his bait behind it however picked up over 20. Thankfully he was throwing them all back.

Did you - or Mr. Corn - catch any nicer size fish?
 
Was there Saturday yaking, not fishing. I observed a fair number of fish rising, nothing consistent though. There appeared to be some gray caddis on the surface, looked to be 16ish in size. A few guys drifting bait under floats were banging them pretty good.

I got skunked the last two times that I fished the Yough. I need a confidence builder, did you see what brand of corn he was using.😊

No idea of the brand but it was white corn, not yellow, which I'm sure made all the difference. The Dollar General in Confluence should have everything you need. Maybe Del Monte will be more effective than store-brand for those Yough trout, who are famous for their sophisticated palates.

I should also mention he was using a 14" centerpin rod with a float, which us purist fly fishermen can imitate with a mono rig and a thingamabobber.
 
Yep, thats where I have been fishing. I did pretty well with a caddis pupa a few weeks ago but lately I can't seem to find the answer.
