Fishing was real good today on the Yough. The water in the Yough before it meets the Cassleman River is always FREEZING, so no problems with water temp at all. It's flowing somewhere around the 800-900 CFS range up there which is a good fishable water level. The water is a perfect color of green with a good clarity. You'll want to find the deeper runs and faster runs, the fish mainly hold there and there only when they aren't letting a whole lot of water out.

I got over 20 in 2 and a half hours using pheasant tail nymphs, dredging the bottom. All fish were over 14 inches, a mix of browns and rainbows and even got a palomino today. It is extremely mossy on the bottom, so lots of fly cleaning but well worth the effort. I didn't notice very much insect activity at all, and didn't see any fish rise in the stretch I fished, most of the feeding is happening subsurface. Maybe in the evenings more insects will come off.

If you make the trip in the next couple days it will be well worth it. It may be one of the only fishable waters around the area due to the high temps.

That's some good numbers for any stream, exceptional numbers for the yough. Congrats

All 20 fish were over 14 inches??!! I just went and checked my notes. Since Jan 1 of this year I've landed 529 trout from ohiopyle to confluence. 82 of them were over 14 inches. So about 1 of every 7 trout I catch from that same section are over 14". My notes from the last 5 years which include over 3000 trout just from that section of the yough show the same pattern. I just can't believe that you caught 20 in a row over 14". You may need to invest in a tape measure.

Cut the new guy a break. Fish there fight bigger than they are...

@fayette I will admit I eyeballed a good amount of my fish.. Most of them were in the 14-16 inch range. The point I was really trying to get across was that I didn't hook into any dinks. Nothing below 10 inches. I think the reason I caught good size fish was because a number of weeks ago, they had some sort of event in the outflow where they did a stocking for kids or for people who don't normally fish at all, and they put some good size fish in there. That's my guess as to of where most of the fish I caught came from.

@ksherbine just in confluence I found a nice run and stuck it out there, I kept catching fish so I didn't move

Note I edited the title line in the original post to better match the "Stream, County, Date" format that we like here in Stream Reports.
Thanks!
