Fished for a couple of hours near Smithton for smallies last night. Water was a bit on the low side. Clarity was very good. Water temps were around 67 - 68.
I caught 4, all on the smallish side but missed many more. I was retrieving mainly down and across with poppers, not sliders or skippers.
At dusk, one fish swirled behind my white popper but didn't take. My next cast was plopped right where he missed it the first time. He smashed it so quickly I was caught off guard, but managed to get a good hook set. I had him on long enough to know it was a nice bass. Then the knot slipped and he was off. But he didn't know it. He started to jump in front of me -- all 18 to 20 inches of him -- he leaped twice and I actually saw my popper hanging from the side of his mouth. So if anybody catches a bass in the Yough near Smithton with a white popper hanging from the side of its mouth, PM me. It's mine. :-D
