Yough and Laurel Hill, 06/28/2008

I got out early this moring on Laurel Hill and the fishing was pretty good with San Juan Worms for the first hour. Things had pretty much died down by 7 AM, so I headed for cooler water in the Yough.

The Yough was all fogged in due to the high humidity and cool water. I started near Ramcat but I was only able to get a smallmouth in the next 1.5 hours. There was one rising trout, but I must have put him down casting to him. I headed up by the dam. As I was entering the water, a kind gentleman who was also rigging up to enter the water said he had been told a #18 caddis was the ticket. He didn't know what color. Well the smallest caddis I had handy was a #16 green elkhair, and it did the trick. I had numerous rises and landed two browns from about 9 to 10 AM. Once the sun was on the watereverything seemed to shut down. I caught no more fish and left around noon.

I drove through Laurel Hill State Park and the Boy Scout Camp on the way home. There were rising fish at the bridge in the park and along the road by the BSCamp. Not sure what they were rising to, but I suspect a small caddis or maybe even an ant would have brought fish to hand.

I hope you kept the fish on the hill, cause if you put them back they're probably dead by now. 69 degrees at lunch yesterday Unless youre meat hunting probably time to give those guys a break and let em move around a bit. imho

Were do you think those fish are going to go SlateDrake?

I fished the lower delayed harvest section. Its delayed harvest and not catch and release regulations becuase the habitat is not suitable to sustain a population through the summer.

I think the best thing we can do is enjoy the fish before they die, cause most of them are going to die. Maybe I should have kept some fish, but I don't enjoy eating them all that much.

I know a few fish summer over in Meadow and the upper Laurel Hill DHALO sections, but I don't think the streams can support the number of fish that are in there now through the summer.

I agree alby. Lets enjoy the fish while they are there while we can. I think all the knit picking about this water to warm, keeping these fish and releasing them and not telling ppl where to go is getting a bit old.
