Yep, they're spawning....

I found myself out of town and in a motel for a couple of days this week. I typically lay off fishing for trout at this time because 95 percent of the streams that I fish have wild Browns or native Brookies in them and I don't wish to disturb the spawn. Because I was stuck in a motel and had at least 5 or 6 hours to waste each day, I violated my own policy. Found the Browns stacked up good and definitely on redds, so I did my best to stay out of the stream and to avoid fishing over the spawners

and eventually I just gave up fishing on each of the two days that I was out. I did catch a few small Browns each day and caught several stocked Rainbows on the second day, including this good one.

I've been finding the same in NWPA.
Hope the YOY will be a strong one with the lack of precipitation this Summer and early fall.
I think the ability to archery hunt with multiple tags has brought down the numbers of fishermen whom used to fish this time of year,
Weather up in these necks is to change for the worse as fall comes barreling in.

I too am finding it hard to let go this Fall.

You'll get a decent day here lately where it warms up past 45°-50°F, and it draws you in, doesn't it?

Last Friday, I waded very little. I find it a good excuse to force myself to roll cast from the bank and work on those skills.

I went out this morning and saw some redds too. I caught a couple holdover bows and A LOT of fallfish, which I welcomed because the browns definitely had other things on their minds.

I was hoping for a couple more trips, but I am thinking it's time to switch to the surf a little early this year.
