Yellow Creek, Bedford County, 9/13/2007

I bagged Thursday from work and went to Yellow Creek. I fished from the bottom of the project water up maybe 1.5 miles. I honestly tried every fly in my box but I just couldn't get them to hit on top. I caugt a wild brown and a stocked brook in the deeper runs. I thought that I would have picked up more fish in the pocket water but there were two old timers ahead of me.

Out of self loathing I finished up the day on to glory hole in front of the houses. Again I threw everything I had. Got a few looks but nada. There was a heavy hatch of midges and I saw a handfull of large light grey colored mayflies. Either my midges were to big or the fish thought that they looked as stupid as I think that they do.

I threw on a cone head black bugger and took a BIG stocked brook at dusk. I lost another bruiser before it was too dark to see. This is a great stream! Hope the land owners continue to let people fish in their yards.

I was there in mid-August hoping for tricos. The tricos were a bust (at least the day I was there). What I did get rises from were black crickets and beetles. I probably had 30 rises, but I only hooked two fish. I think they were giving me the "noisy refusal" by truning away at the last second but still breaking the surface. Most of the rises came in faster warter between the pools.

rh- Don't feel bad, that kinda stuff happens there alot or at least it happens to me. Hey man let yourself off the hook, it is the time of year. Not many hatches going, water was warmuntil a couple of days ago and is very low. But the cooler weather-lower light periods and the return of the trusty Beatis will help turn things around. That's what I make of it. Paul

You should have taken mine and maurice's advice and fished the little juniata!
Seriously though, that stream in the FFO area can be one tough mother to fish. There are only about 5 real holes there, and those fish get pounded constantly. They've seen every fly in the book

The key to yellow creek this time of year is terrestials.
Also subsurface midge beadheads are deadly. Size 16 and smaller
There is a monster bow in the hole above the houses

Hey,
I got no complaints about my outing to Yellow. I rarely get to go there so I took the oppertunity. I have never really fished the little J. I am waiting for someone to invite me on an outing :lol:
Seriously, if I am driving to the Little J I might as well go to spring creek. At least that has always been my internal argument.

I'll take you to the Little J and show you what I know if you'll take me to Spring sometime. I find I never get to Spring because I can't bring myself to drive past the Little J to get there... :-D
