Yellow Breeches (The Run), Cumberland County, 1/11/2009

Went out today to the Run to try and hook into to some fish so I could try out the new rod and reel from 12 - 4. Only saw 3 other fishermen at the Run off and on. Was nice to have the place all but to myself. One guy showed up and said "Are we crazy or what" as I walked by. I replied "No, not us."
Fish aren't as plentiful as usual but they were there. Missed 2 or 3 before I caught the trifecta. 1 brown by the outflow of the lake on a white woolly bugger, one bow in the riffs by the parking lot on a glo-bug and 1 brook by the foot bridge on an ice-cream nymph. All were about 16"-17" with the brook being the fatest.
Also had 2 nice browns chasing my nymph right by the outflow in the lake but they never actually hit it.

Was also out yesterday with Sal. Went to the Upper Tully - 0 hookups. Went to Wyomissing Creek. Sal - 1 wild Brown. Went to Angelica Creek. Me - 1 wild Bow. Wind was brutal.

I've only ever fished that once. I was on the way home from a funeral and had one hour. While I did catch a half dozen in that time I have many more that would do just that...chase my bugger right up to the bank and then turn away...They must see a ton of different flies.

They do. It's always crowded which is why I was suprised to have the place be so empty even with the weather the way it was.
I usually don't like to fish there because of the crowds and the fact that's it's almost like fishing a hatchery but I wanted to get into a bigger fish than the 5" wild Bow I caught yesterday to really see what the new fly rod and reel was like.

Hey Spector,
I think that may have been my two buddies and I you talked to today - bout 2:30 pm along the Run. Did you ask me about surface feeding activity?

Anyway, cold day - water was 38degF in the main stem Yellow Breeches (52 in the Run). We caught several browns dredging the bottom with nymphs. I got water down both my legs - shoulda worn waders instead of hippers. My buddy fell in the river and got soaked but he continued to fish - yuh gotta admire those Recon Marines - don't know when to quit. Yeah, it was a painful day but a good time was had.

No that wasn't me. I think that was the guy I talked with though. That's about when he arrived. I had on the brown neoprene chest waders, green fishing vest and black beanie hat.
