Yellow Breeches Run, Cumberland County, 1/25/2015

I was out today from about 12-3:30. Water was a little off colored but not too bad and the water temp was about 48 degrees. I got a nice 12 inch brookie on a size 22 Zebra Midge, a nice rainbow on the same midge and a brown on a wooly bugger. I got plenty of other hookups but I wasn't able to get them to the net. There was a good amount of guys out I am guessing because of the upcoming storm thinking they won't get back out for awhile. It was a nice day out.

Hey breeches. You probably saw myself and my buddy there. I was the guy in the orvis waders and red beanie, my buddy was wearing a blue jacket and a phillies beanie. As you said small midges were the key as I brought a small brown and a 15 inch brook to net on a 22 black zebra, and a small 8 inch brown with a size 20 mercury midge. We both talked to a nice guy named Tom who is a guide in Maryland and has a website, "Heavywater Anglers" if you wanna check it out. He gave us good advice on the stream and let us borrow some strike puddy over our clunky thingamabobber indicators that were spooking the fish away. My friend however managed a huge 18 inch brook in the "toilet bowl" as we call it right where the water comes in from the lake on a size 6 olive zonker in which we were plesantly suprised, definitely a hold over. I'll try to get some pictures up at some point.

I might have seen you there. I like the name "toilet bowl" but I've heard it called a lot of other things. Nice fish too. I talked to Tom as well but not when you guys were there. I am not sure how much you guys fish the run but you have to go small. I like to use size 24 zebras in black and olive on 6 or even 7x tippets. Also, like you said, don't use big indicators, instead try the micro stick on ones or the New Zealand Wool Indicator(my favorite). The biggest thing to remember at the run is that these fish are used to being hooked and are constantly pressured. Like I said, if you go small, these finicky fish will bite. Good luck, Breeches.

Glad you folks are out and catching fish. The YBAC does a great job with all there stocking including the winter stocking. There brookies are special. Try to keep in mind there efforts by attending there spring outing and other support.
