Yellow Breeches, Cumberland County, 9/12/2011

Stopped by the Breeches today to get in a few hours of fishing. I was hoping the water was down a little after all the rain, but it was a bit high and stained. Due to the high and fast water, I only tossed streamers...saw one good-sized fish throw my fly from 40 feet away and had another chase it to within a few feet of where I was standing, but no fish hooked or to hand. I usually don't like getting skunked, but there was something about being on the stream in adverse conditions that just made it a really pleasurable experience.

I fished the reg water briefly today (Wed the 14th). Stream looked very good - higher than normal with a slight stain. Water temp was 65 above the confluence with the Run, which was 58. No bugs or surface activity. Nymphs got a few; nothing came up for terrestrials; best action was on a streamer fly - lots of short strikes but the fish were willing to move for a streamer. As far as I could tell, I had the entire Allenberry section to myself. If you're thinking about a trip to YB this weekend, the stream looks very nice and should fish well. The photo below is the popular pool at the pavilion.

Edit: Today (Thurs the 15th) we've seen more heavy rain in the SC - take what I said in the above post with a grain of salt. Local creeks around here are blown out.
