Stayed at the Allenberry Resort on the Breeches Friday and Saturday......stream had a nice flow and was plenty cold. Fishing was really good to say the least. Fished below the dam and lost count on the numbers of fish landed, easily double digits both days. Size 20 olive soft hackle was the top producing fly both days. Also took fish on wet ants, zebra midge and walts worms. The best fish was a 18" just picture perfect brown from a riffle downstream of the dam.

In the day of posting and restricting access it refreshing to see a place like Allenberry that is welcoming of fisherman even if your not staying at the resort they'll allow parking and access.
 
No so much as a report as a frustrated observation. Yesterday I pulled into the newly paved parking lot at the Run. While suiting up to head downstream, I noticed a gentleman sitting on the new log improvement dangling his feet in the stream. He was not fishing, just cooling himself I guess.

While fishing the mainstream, the usual float tubes meandered downstream and were polite enough to quietly float behind me.

Shortly afterwards, two young ladies appeared and began wading and swimming in the deep water at the "culvert".

Is this now to be expected? Is this a result of the paving of the lot as more and more cars are now using it for other than fly fishing. Many hikers are leaving their vehicles on the lot for days while the hike the AT.

My wife says I'm just being a curmudgen, is she right?
 
I noticed some of the same things Joe.....There was a couple sitting on the bank near where the run goes into the Breeches and their small child was splashing around the riffle there.....hot weather is bringing them out I suppose.
 
I was at the Run yesterday and saw those kids too.

This is common. Days like yesterday always bring some folks out to cool off either in or next to the creek. It's like walking up to a huge outdoor air conditioner.

Regarding the tubes and canoes: again, very common on Breeches this time of year. The new paving has nothing to do with this. It's been a popular public parking area for years.

In fact, I'd say that, quite frankly, there are significantly fewer people fishing and playing in the Run and Breeches than in years past.
 
The run or the breeches not is not the place to go to expect solitude. People, dogs and the entire world goes there for more than just fishing. Still a nice place to go anyways, just dont expect to be alone.
 
Precisely why I hit the breeches at 5:00 am and get out by 9:00 over the summer. Had many great days and still had time to do other things. Beating the heat is a fringe benefit.

LOL! The only time I saw the Fishidiot, he was walking his dog, Bennie!!

I have to watch that I don't step in dog poop every time I walk around the Breeches!
 
The floaters are really bad this year. I have been fishing Yellow Breeches for awhile and this is first time I've seen so much boat traffic. I've noticed the same on Spring Creek in Centre County. A bunch of teenagers were pretty rude to me this afternoon. When I commented on their behavior they threatened me. Then there was the idiot and his girl friend in a canoe who anchored above the mill dam at Allenberry. He asked me what size they had to be to keep. I replyed that this was catch and release water. Then I asked him if he was using bait. He said yes. I told him of the artificial only regulations which applied to this section of the creek. They moved out of sight but I have a feeling he was still using bait as they drifted downstream.

I did remarkablely well considering all the drama. Fish really active on top today. I definitely will avoid the Allenberry stretch duing mid day in the future.
