Yellow Breeches Cumberland County 4/1/2017

Did not mix it up with the crowds and decided to fish Yellow Breeches later in the day. Started at South Middleton Park with my spinning rod, Caught one small brown and a bunch of fallfish. Had enough of the fallfish and decided to head to Allenberry to flyfish. Steady hatch of grannoms until 5. Missed 3 and landed two, Also some hendricksons coming off and I caught one of the fish on a hendrickson emerger. Water was high and almost swamped my waders. Water clarity was perfect, surprised as I thought things would be muddy.

Fished there yesterday as well. Was the best opening day I've ever had. Great water color, steady caddis, didn't see anybody until 3:00 pm (may have been you?). Caught first 2 on 22 olive dry before the caddis started. Landed another 9 on dry caddis. Nicest fish was a real healthy 13 inch wild fish.

Dang, I must not have stuck around long enough. I saw no insects and caught nothing while I was there.

Sunday afternoon with the nice weather saw the Childrens Lake area jammed with humanity. Though the regs area likely would have had room, the parking lot did not. Lots of cars parked in the grass along the road. Quite a festive atmosphere for the youngsters and parents. Other access areas saw similar use. Great to see.

If you were by the pipe and the overhanging sycamore I slide in downstream. The guy above me told me he saw some Hendricksons and a fish right in front of me was feeding voraciously. I missed him on the grannom but changed to the Hendrickson Emerger and he inhaled it. After you went upstream I tried to get the few fish right near the gravel path but they weren't interested in what I was throwing. I saw a small yellow fly with clear wings. Not sure what it was. At first I thought crane fiy but it was a size 16. Almost looked like a sulphur. Do sulphurs ever hatch this early?

This was at S. Middleton Park. There was a gent rigging up a spin rod next to me with a sticker on the rear side window of his vehicle. I was leaving.

Whatever the case, I saw no hatch activity where I was.

Regarding the little insect - it could have been a sulpher, perhaps a dorothea (they can pop off CV streams at unusual times) but a clear wing suggests to me something else. Hhmmm...

I was fishing between the 2 down trees and someone dropped in just below me and asked if they were taking the grannoms. I said yes. That's all I really remember.

I think I was further downstream from you. I was in the deep water section and there was a gentleman with dark hair giggling about all the takes he was getting, just above me.
