Yellow Breeches, Cumberland County, 2/18/2013

Fished the Yellow Breeches and The Run from 4pm until dark on Presidents Day. Air temp - 38 degrees. Water temp - cold to say the least.

There were three other anglers fishing. Two in the run, one down on the Breeches. One angler at the footbridge was benefiting from a mother and her son throwing bread to about 20 jumping trout in the pool below the bridge. I saw him hook up with a nice brown in the 5 mins I was rigging up. Not sure what he was using, but marketing a "wonderbread" fly pattern could be a lucrative idea. ;-)

I have not been out in awhile and felt a bit rusty. It showed - I lost a quick two nymphs in a low hanging branch. So I moved to a wider area of the stream and tried dead drifting a few streamers - nothing.

I headed back to the run toward dark and tied on a green scud and a egg pattern. Quickly hooked up with two pretty feisty trout; a brown and a smaller rainbow. I lost one other decent sized brown. There was still an angler up by the bridge who looked to be doing well. Talked to him on my way out and he gave me two patterns he tied. Didn't get his name, but really appreciated the hospitality - I'm new to the area and the stream!

Yeah, this has been going on for years. If there's a WCO nearby they'll usually tell the folks to knock it off.

Glad you had a fun trip. Breeches is pretty darn dependable.

Good to hear!

I was sad to see so much silt in the run. I've only fished it once before, but I assume it isn't like that year to year. Hopefully it doesn't hurt the fishery too much. Can't be good...

I agree, and I have seen a guy with a "bread" fly fishing under that bridge!

Restock tomorrow, same thing with Muddy! It has begun again! I have waited all winter for this early stocking.

I think the run got a good dose of silt from them draining the lake to kill the vegetation. It will be pushed out with the next couple of high water events.

I haven't noticed that much silt in the Breeches. I know that pool you must be talking about.... it seems to always have a little silt?

I'm still amazed at the way they keep the Breeches in such good shape. A lot of guys fish there, and there is always a lot of trout, and never any trash! A clean water paradise? I love that place!

Just tie on a creme or white sucker spawn. Problem solved! I guess I should fish the YB someday, but when in that area, the Letort or BS always seems to draw me in.
