Weather:
Mostly cloudy and cool in the morning, with clearing conditions and temps in the mid 40s in the afternoon. It was breezy on and off in the afternoon.
Water:
Low and clear. The breeches was running around 200 cfs, and very cold with the snow melt.
Hatches:
Grey midge 20-26 from 10:00 through 02:30. I saw about a half dozen olive duns 18-20 throughout the entire day. I did not see any stoneflies on the water and I did not examine the banks carefully enough to see any on the rocks.
Report:
I started the day slow stripping streamers downstream of the run. I moved about half dozen fish on olive buggers. I foul hooked a large brook trout under the pectoral fin after he rolled on the fly and I landed 3 stocked browns. On the walk back up towards the run, I noticed a small pod of risers in the slow water. I fished a size 22 grey midge dry and started picking off risers pretty steadily for a couple hours. It was a spot and stalk situation, where you would find a pod of maybe 4 bank sippers and catch one or two, then scan the water for another pod, and slowly work your way into position and catch a couple more. I caught a decent mixture of wild and stocked browns on the dries. It was about 2:1 ratio with the stockers being more frequent.
