Today I fished the Breeches below the run at Boiling Springs. I landed one nice brown he was decent size 13 or 14 inches but it put up a surprisingly good fight for it's size. It even ran on me taking out a bit of line from my spool. My TFO 7'9" 4 weight seems a good match for the Breeches. It was cold today, in the thirties. It was in the low twenties when I woke up this morning. I saw a number of trout. Midges were hatching and looked to be some black stones. A monster rose (or should I say exploded) on the surface, it reminded me of a show I watched where Peacock Bass were nailin' bugs on the surface. I caught my brown on a cream scud pattern size 16. I saw lots of surface hits and tried stone flies, since I saw a few around but got nothing. I think they were hitting the midges in a size 32-42, yeah they were small. I saw a few different variaitons of midge, as they were landing on me. Also thought some looked like BWO's only they were so small you could barely see them. I talked to a few people, no one else had any luck or were seeing risers but they had all been fishing downstream of me. I would have stayed but wasn't supposed to be fishing today, didn't have long sleeve's, no thick socks, and left my camera at home. So I would have to say for having aching cold fingers and toes it was worth the detour on my way home.
