Yellow Breeches, Cumberland Co.07/12/2015

Fished the Yellow Breeches Sun morning between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM at Allenberry mostly at the Castles. Water temperature was 64 degrees and the flow was nearly perfect with just a slight off color. Was only one other fly fisherman (woman) in sight when I started. Started kind of slow with no action on nymphs. After about an hour I switched rods from a 9 ft 5wt fast action to a 6'8" 3wt fiberglass , tied on a black foam beetle and had a blast. The water was so slightly off color that you could make out the stream bottom but couldn't see any fish. When the beetle floated by, suddenly a trout would appear out of no where and engulf it. This all happened in water was about 1&1/2 to 2 feet deep. I ended up with 10 all together 8 browns 2 bows. One of the rainbows was an interesting catch. My line had become twisted around itself on the spool and in order untangle it I had to remove the spool and let all the line out down to the backing. Wouldn't you know it with the rod in my left hand and the spool in my right this rainbow has to complicate things. One thing for sure my line is now wound tight all the way to the backing.
Not a bad day on the stream for the middle of July.

Got to "the run" late....maybe 10 am- on Sunday. I was nymphing with limited succes then switched to sunken ants and game on. Switched to a dry ant and then a beetle with the same outcome you had. Love fishing beetles!!!!

I went for an evening trip 5:30PM-8:30 PM on saturday to a portion of the creek just west of Brandtsville. Was not sure of the water temp, but I assume a little higher than ideal because it was a scorcher that day. Only saw one other FF'er pull in around 8, but I had no luck except 1 chubb. Fished BH hare's ear nymph, BH prince nymph and a black bugger with flash. Glad to hear you and boss_steb had more luck than me! Is the FFO section by Allenbury?

The C&R (not FFO) is at Allenbury. Actually from The Run down past Allenbury. I've never fished it this far into the summer but it sounds like the water temps are holding out pretty well this year. Ants and inch worms have always worked well for me on the Breeches in the summer if you're looking for something to try.

I haven't fished the run for years but it should stay cold enough all summer. I used to fish it quite a bit and always did pretty well. Now I head for the main creek when I head down that way.
