When: Wednesday, May 18th, 2016.
Where: Yellow Breeches between Allenberry Dam and the "run".
Time: 7:30-9:15pm.
Weather: It was cloudy the entire time with temps in the 50's. There was on and off drizzle which made the conditions a bit more miserable, but it seemed to make the fishing better so I can't really complain.
Water: Fairly clear with a great flow. It was fairly chilly though, somewhere in the mid-low 50's.
Hatches: Saw a good amount of sulphurs in sizes 16 and 14, some caddis in sz 16, and some midges too in the 20's. Sulphur spinners started falling around 8:30.
Fish Caught: 7 in total. 6 browns-3 on sz16 tan caddis, 3 on sulphur spinner. 1 rainbow but I can't remember if I caught him on a caddis or sulphur. All of the fish were between 9-13 inches.
Overall: I got there around 7:30 and decided to head upstream of the dam. Saw 3 guys below the dam as I crossed the stream to head up the trail. Got to my spot in the slow water a few hundred yards above the dam and saw only 1 other guy way upstream. There was fish rising everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE. There were a good amount of white/grayish midges flying around but the fish seemed to be more interested in the caddis and sulphurs flying around. Most of the caddis looked to be tan caddis but I did have a tiny(sz 20?) black caddis land on my hand. Around 8:30ish there was a good sulphur spinner fall and boy did the fish key in on it. I caught 4 fish in the last 45 minutes and missed like a half dozen. Fished until around 9:15ish and decided to head back. Overall it was a great night. And it looks like the "crappy" weather did make the fishing better. Good luck!
