Yellow Breeches Creek, Cumberland Co., 4/13/22

I was in the area of the Yellow Breeches Creek today so I stopped in midday to fish for an hour or so. Lots of fishing pressure for midday on a Wednesday so I continued upstream until I found a spot where nobody was parked. It was a section that I never fished before.

The water temp was 56 degrees. There were some sporadic tan caddis coming off and a few olives and a few fish hitting the surface here and there. I went with a 3 fly wet fly rig fishing the runs and riffles and the fish were definitely looking up because they were just smashing the wet flies. I caught quite a few fish, missed a bunch and lost a few as well in a bit over an hour of fishing. They were all cookie cutter YB wild brownies. I even caught my first double of the year. Great to spend a little bit of time on the stream and knock some of the rust off.

That’s a fun style of fishing, I have been getting some on the swing for sure with la Fontaine caddis

I remember last year this time was my first time at yellow breeches. I was in the C&R section trying to get the first risers I saw to take my BWO pattern for about half an hour. An older gentleman came from upstream, hitting any water that was open (but not pressuring others) and was just raking them in. He stopped by me and talked setups because it was apparent that mine wasn't working.... He was running 3 wet flies (la fontaine sparkle pupa home brew) on the swing. I then proceeded to watch him catch a double as well and help him net it. Needless to say, i spent my winter months tying la fontaines in preparation for the breeches this year.
