Yellow Breeches Creek, Cumberland Co., 11Dec2008

I got to fish the Yellow Breeches today for the first time. For future reference, if you choose a rainy Thursday in the middle of December you will likely have the whole catch and release secion to yourself as I did today. I tried nymphing with PTs, scuds, eggs, and SJWs all without success. I had several hits on streamers today I missed most of them, but one broke me off with a vicious strike and I managed to hook and land a single fish on a green Zoo Couger.

Nice water. I hope to fish it again someday when the weather is nicer.

Here is a lousy picture of a great fish.

P.S. We need to get Fredrick on this stream. I must have seen a half dozen herons. One of them tried to scare me away by charging at me.

I have yet to catch one. Most people say they're ugly, but you have to catch atleast one in your lifetime. Fished over a large one on opening day, but to no avail. Anyways, nice fish.

I don't think the photo is lousy at all - the slight off focus actually makes for a nice effect. YB is usually good for some palis throughout much of the year. Both the PFBC and local clubs stock 'em there. They are often quite large. One year they put so many in at Allenberry that one particular pool it looked like a banana truck had crashed into it.

That's funny and quite an accurate way to put it.

I've been in Green Spring when all of a sudden a monster yellow-gold things charges out from under the weeds and swims right by my feet.

Scares the crap out of me everytime.

That looks like the palomino that fooled me the other week just above the damn. I forgot my polorized glasses so he was the only on I could see swimming around. I caught two browns below the damn though.

Real nice fish, thats a beauty. Alot of people do say theyre ugly, but i would only half agree. There are some really ugly ones that are dull and white. but there are also very vibrant orange ones with bright pink stripes which to me are amazing.

If you look at the pic it looks like the fish is breathing air from your reel!! What the hell dude...you knock me out of the playoffs and then you catch a beautifull fish......What do I get!!!!LOL

If its any consolation, EHewitt has lead on me in the opening round of the playoffs.

I stopped at the Breeches on my wy down to DC for a meeting. I stopped at Yellow creek on the way home. Check out my other report.

Can you still park your car at Allenbury and walk down the little road to the creek?
Thank God for the rain we just had......... and more to come next week.
Maybe a good "flushing" just might pick up the Susquehanna. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Susquehanna went from about 20,000 to 90,000 cfs at marietta, so yeah it was a good rain. Not too much. Although they have a gauge there on the Breeches, I'm not so sure about how my favorite stream took the pounding. It tends to get muddy, after some good hard rain. I have not yet caught a palomino, though I had broken a monster off on a 4 weight once, on a mickey finn of all things. Thats a nice one.

Allenberry is still open to public fishing and the "fisherman's parking" area is still available. Unfortunately, there remain many fishermen who are too lazy to park in this designated parking area and instead will drive down the hill and park by the tennis courts - even though there's a very clearly placed sign asking fishermen not to park in this area. On any given weekend, you'll see many cars, many with out-of-state plates, illegally parked down there. From time to time, I'll hear from a fishermen who claims due to "health reasons" he's unable to walk down from the fishermen's parking area and therefore must park down by the creek. I don't buy it. If one is healthy enough to wade around Yellow Breeches, they're healthy enough to walk to the stream (or have someone drive them down to it and drop 'em off). I have felt for years that the folks who run Allenberry would finally get sick of this behavior and ban fishermen from the estate. Fortunately, this hasn't happened. If it does, we'll only have ourselves to blame. These days, I think there are a lot more fishermen who park up at The Run and fish downstream into the special reg section.
