Hit the water at 6 am, with a few others on the stream. Water level was normal depth, to slightly below and clear. Left my thermo in the car, so no temp.

Nothing much was happening on the surface initially. Saw a scattered trico or two, along with tan caddis, but the trout were ignoring them until about 7:45, when the hatch picked up a little bit.

Went subsurface with a 20 PT with no luck / tried tan caddis, same result. Trikes picked up around 7:30 with fish beginning to rise sporadically. Dropped to 8X tippet and 26 trico and hooked up with two small browns. Usually takes me a week or two to get the hang of 11 ft leaders and micro flies (let me clarify, it takes that long that I don't look horribly foolish.)

Good to get out, but hatch is not yet in full swing and the trout are still learning to look up that early in the morning.
