The Breeches, Green Spring and Big Spring were all stocked today. I tried to fish Muddy Creek in York County but it was being stocked and it was just so low I had no interest in fishing so I drove up to Boiling Springs and when I pulled into the "Run" parking lot there was only one parking spot in that entire lot.
A couple of old timers were sitting under that little rain pavilion and they told me it was stocked a few hours earlier. I BS'ed with the guys about half an hour and then put my stuff on. I don't know where everyone was as I only encountered four guys from where the Run enters all the way down to the deep flat water.
Conditions: Water very clear and still very cold. I don't fish there but once or twice a year but it looked kind of low for late February. The water from where the Run comes in to where the deep water starts was not more than 18" deep and most of it 12" or less. I saw a couple of tan caddis and a guy I talked to said on Monday late afternoon the water was covered with what he thought were Grannoms. Seems about two months too early for those bugs. Personally I think he was seeing Early Black stones which seems much more credible than Grannoms.
I didn't touch a fish but I don't fish very hard either. There might of been 100 fish there but I admittedly don't like to nymph. So I tied on a #16 Prince and a #18 Red Copper John, both BH's, and slowly waded my way down to that deep water.
Sat on the bank for about 1/2 hour and saw three rising fish, but they rose once every five minutes so I never got enthused enough to cast to them. Quit at 3:00.
