Yellow Breeches (Allenberry), Cumberland Co., 10/07/11

OK JDaddy want to get this right. Breaches behind the Allenberry October 7, 2011 Cumberland County PA. Fished it with the Prof. He got 3 I got zip except 1 lost after breaking the surface. Water was quite cold and just over the knee except for the deep stretch above the dam. Water was ripping and a wading staff was a must for us older guys. Was amazed at the out of state plates in the Fisherman's Parking Lot. Hey J I believe one was from Montana. Went to the Fly Shop. The rumors it might be in trouble seem dead on...no hats and just 2 tee shirts. Seems to me that a Fly Shop should always have some hats in inventory.

breeches~Haven't fished there for 48 years but I still see it in my memory.
the guy from montana might have been doing what I always wanted to do.Hit it on a busy day,using your 8wt., shooting heads and size 2 streamers and oh ,so innocently start fishing down through the mob and see how far you got.lol

Funny thing is Pete the Prof and I haven't been there in 20 years or so and we both commented that nothing has changed. It almost appears as if the recent hurricaine/storms left it untouched. No wash outs etc. Will have to PM Fishidiot and ask if the Breaches avoided the storms.

Hey Fade, it's "Breeches." 🙂 (Fixed it for yuh)
According to legend, the name "yellow breeches" supposedly comes from the colonial era when British troops forded the stream it stained their underwear yellow.

And yes, the area around Allenberry is almost unchanged in the last 20+ years. There's some new fencing down by the pavilion and some small bank improvement projects built during the annual youth camp but otherwise looks like it has for a long time. Which is nice IMO.

Nice job Fade. I went to the Tully today for the first time since the storm and the Papermill has substantially changed. Frankly I think for the better.

Pete it's funny you said that. I used a 5wt but I used 6' fast sinking tip with tung cone streamers. I cleaned up on fresh stockies. Other people were befuddled at the technique.
