Wild tiger trout coloring

I catch same fish twice quite frequently on separate outings in small mountain streams. Often in different years. Noticed more when I used to fish more and take more pics.

Once upon a time, being trained in statistics, I tried to use pics of doubles on various outings to analyze what % of the "catchable" fish I was catching in a given stretch in a single outing. Used as a college paper! i.e. randomly sample a population multiple times, you can estimate the population size based on the number of individuals that show up in multiple samples. I got that I was catching about 25% of the total population in a given outing in one place and 40% in another.

I won't vouch for that conclusion! Too many variables unaccounted for. Rod and reel is not a random sample. Like maybe those were just the easiest to catch based on size, personality, lie, or type of water I fish best (like its pretending the fish in the impossible spots dont exist). Which understanding the limitations of your imperfect data was one of the points of the exercise.....

I also think some of the examples posted on this thread are some of the prettiest trout I ever saw. 👍
I agree. It's some of what I was hoping for when I started this thread. I still recall seeing my first ever wild tiger trout that a buddy caught way back in the early 70's. It was quite small, maybe 5" or 6", but the mixed colors were like nothing I'd seen before on any trout.
That tiger trout and the one I caught are the only one's I've actually ever layed eyes on. It still blows my mind the number of wild tigers Frank has caught, just amazing.

Agree. On franks numbers. Remember the places and countless hours fished in places there most likely to live rather than not live in and you see the results in numbers of wild tigers caught by him
 
My son's roommate caught this one. Northern Tennessee Tiger.

What a gorgeous tiger trout. One of the prettiest I've seen. That line of spots is something I've never seen on a tiger trout. I do believe it's wild too.
I agree 100 percent. I don't think Chat gpt could have created a prettier trout.

Yes, the capture re-capture method. Tried and true.
 
How accurate is the capture recapture method used by the PFBC to estimate trout populations?
More accurate than mine probably. Electro-shock vs rod and reel as a capture method.

Its not about being more thorough (catching a higher % of total fish). Its about being more random. But yeah I'd imagine electroshock is more random as well. With rod and reel the fish in difficult holes are undersampled, and those in easier holes are oversampled.

The width of the confidence interval depends on K ( the number of fish caught on the second visit to the stream) and k (the number in the second visit identified as being caught before (photos alike)).

Probably less accurate with photo-matching. I think the PFBC uses something like a clipped fin to mark the fish caught in the first sample and identify the re-captured individuals.

So, you think it's AI generated? Actually, it is such a pretty trout that I was initially skeptical of it being real. Like I mentioned, that line of spots is something I have NEVER seen on a wild tiger trout. If it was AI generated, it sure is pretty. 🙂

It's not real. Was posted on 4/1 - a well executed April Fools joke! Idk if it was AI or just good old fashioned Photoshop.
