Fished Wiconisco special regs, water 59 degrees, low, and clear but with numerous leaves on a very windy day. Managed a few fish but overall was rather slow. Leaves made it tough and limited fly selection (stripping streamers got leaves every cast).
Also fished it a week ago and did much better then with no leaves and fish actively chasing each other around as well as mouthing just about any subsurface fly that drifted by. But now they have wised up, were not chasing each other, and saw less fish but assume or hope its cause they know how to hide (as opposed to poached out and I really did not see any telltale signs like bait containers). Did not see any trout out in the open but did catch a glimpse as fish here and there would come out from a shadow and inspect but not hit my fly.
It was a mix of rainbows and brooks which was a surprise since brooks were not on the fall schedule and I dont think many hold over in the summer since it is a bigger warmer stream. Also caught some nice sized fallfish (or some relative).
Normally the most slippery stream known to man. But right now it was easy wading and not slippery. Maybe the good footing is a fall thing but I hope its permanent.
