White Clay- Lower Section, 6/8/2008

Hi All,

This is my 1st real report so bear with me b/c I am a novice. I fished the lower section of White Clay this a.m. From above the DE line to confluence of the east branch. Missed a few but managed to land a nice 10" brown (bead head zug bug with a hares ear dropper). There was a small hatch going on @ 7-730am but being new I was unable to identify it completely they were small and brown @ size 14 I think. I did see that a lot of fish were turning on the emegers or nymphs and I did not have the pattern, or the one I did have was not what the fish wanted. One thing I did notice which happened on two seperate holes were the fish chasing minnows. If you are heading there in the early a.m. I might suggest a good streamer b/c on both occasions the minnow actually beached itself to get away! I don't know if I am doing something wrong but I seem to be missing a lot of hits. I had several on a brown woolly bugger where they hit it like a dart but then don't take completely. Patience I keep telling myself.

Wellcome aboard. Nice report, but the "Report Police" (Jack) will surely rewrite your report title.

Short strikes on wooly buggers are common for trout. If you tie flies, tie your WBs short with the chenille covering only half to two thirds of the shank and the marabou barely extended beyond the bend. If you don't tie you own flies, just cut the marabou tail short to help with the short strikes. HTH - good luck.

Thanks for the WB input..I will take a look at the ones I have bought and will remember when I start to tie this winter.

Also i see what you mean by the title.I should have included the date..

Just about every Monday I have 15 minutes of moderating work to do. The stickie at the top of the forum explains what a report should contain and how it should be titled. The Message Board software allows searching and sorting. If everyone followed the format, you could search dates, streams and counties and filter out the non-relevant reports.

As noted in the stickies, the title should read:

[Stream name], [County], [Date (MM/DD/YYYY)]

I don't have time to correct dates expressed various ways, such as with dashes instead of slashes or 8Jun08, etc., but I think it would be nice if everyone would use the convention Dave Kile suggests, that is, 6/8/2008. I don't think it is necessary to use leading zeros, such as 06/08/2008.
